Damit Verbraucher in Europa nicht allein gelassen werden und ihr Vertrauen in den Binnenmarkt gestärkt wird, hat die Europäische Kommission 2005 ein Netzwerk ins Leben gerufen, das Verbrauchern mit Rat und Tat bei allen europäischen Fragen zur Seite steht. Das Netzwerk der Europäischen Verbraucherzentren (engl. European Consumer Centres Net, kurz ECC-Net) ist in jedem der 28 EU-Staaten sowie in Island und Norwegen mit einem Zentrum vertreten.

Hier finden Verbraucher nicht nur Informationen zu ihren Rechten in Europa, sei es beim Einkaufen oder Reisen, sondern erhalten auch kostenlose juristische Unterstützung bei Streitigkeiten mit einem Unternehmen im EU-Ausland, in Island oder Norwegen. Um diese grenzüberschreitenden Streitigkeit außergerichtlich beizulegen, arbeiten die Juristen mit ihren Kollegen in den jeweiligen Ländern eng zusammen.
